Polyimide (PI) tape and amber PET tape are two mainstream high-performance adhesive tapes widely used in the market. In contrast, amber PET tape takes polyester film as the base material, with a professional amber tint treatment to block ultraviolet rays and resist light aging. Positioned as a cost-effective medium-temperature resistant tape, it features reliable basic performance and outstanding cost advantages. Its long-term temperature resistance ranges from 180°C to 200°C, which fully meets the temperature requirements of conventional electronic manufacturing processes, including component masking protection, surface fixing, and conventional high-temperature packaging. While its chemical resistance and extreme temperature tolerance are slightly lower than PI tape, amber PET tape delivers stable tensile strength, excellent die-cutting performance, no scratches or wire drawing during processing, and clean peeling without residual glue under standard working conditions.


The core application differentiation of the two tapes stems from their performance gaps. PI tape is the preferred choice for extreme and high-precision manufacturing scenarios. It is widely applied in high-end fields such as precision PCB circuit board protection, semiconductor component packaging, lithium battery high-temperature insulation, aerospace electronic parts fixing, and ultra-high temperature welding shielding, where strict requirements for temperature resistance, insulation safety and long-term stability are mandatory.


Amber PET tape is an ideal alternative for conventional industrial scenarios with moderate temperature requirements. For general electronic product processing, plastic surface high-temperature protection, ordinary circuit board masking, and daily industrial insulation fixing, amber PET tape can completely meet production standards. Reasonable replacement of PI tape with qualified amber PET tape in non-extreme working conditions will not reduce production quality, but can effectively cut material procurement costs and improve corporate market competitiveness.


Industry analysts pointed out that there is no absolute superiority or inferiority between PI tape and amber PET tape, only targeted scenario matching. PI tape focuses on extreme performance and ultra-high stability, serving high-end precision manufacturing and special industrial environments; amber PET tape adheres tocost-effective and efficient practicality, covering most conventional industrial processing needs.
