Among them, the highest temperature that can be tolerated and the difference between long-term and short-term temperature tolerance are the core issues that many companies pay most attention to when choosing high temperature tape.

The maximum temperature tolerance of high-temperature tape

Different types of high-temperature tapes have different maximum temperatures that they can withstand. Taking the common polyimide high-temperature tape as an example, it can usually withstand temperatures up to 260°C. This tape is made of polyimide film as the base material and coated with high-performance silicone. It is widely used in fields such as electronics and aerospace that require extremely high temperature resistance of materials. In the manufacturing process of circuit boards, high-temperature welding and other processes are required. Long-term temperature tolerance refers to the highest temperature at which the high-temperature tape can maintain its various performance indicators basically stable under continuous use. For example, if a high-temperature tape with a long-term temperature resistance of 150°C is placed in an environment above 150°C for a long time, its viscosity will gradually decrease, and the substrate may age and become brittle, which will eventually cause the tape to lose its proper function. On the production line of automobile engines, the high-temperature tape used to fix parts needs to withstand the heat generated by the engine running for a long time, which requires the tape to be able to maintain stable performance in a long-term high-temperature environment.

Short-term temperature tolerance

Short-term temperature tolerance refers to the highest temperature that the high-temperature tape can withstand in a short period of time (usually ranging from a few minutes to a few hours). At this temperature, although the performance of the tape may change to a certain extent, it can still basically return to its original performance after the temperature returns to normal. For example, in the wave soldering process of electronic products, the circuit board will instantly pass through the high-temperature area. At this time, the high-temperature tape used needs to have good short-term high-temperature resistance, and can not fall off or be damaged under the short-term high-temperature impact, so as to ensure the smooth progress of the welding process. Generally speaking, the short-term temperature resistance of high-temperature tapes will be higher than the long-term temperature resistance by a certain range. For example, some tapes have a long-term temperature resistance of 200°C, but a short-term temperature resistance of 250°C or even higher.
